I'm angry about the rules of the VG sprites section
#1
I'm really pissed off about the limitation which were made in the rules section about the submission which are not "sorted".

I tried to export 15 times a bunch of differents pack of sprites (something like 10.000 files unsorted), and at the 15th, Random Talking Bush tell me that :

Quote:You were literally just submitting every single image file from Fallout Shelter [EDIT : And Fallout 4/76, since I also asked about it] unaltered, with no care towards organization compared to most of the other submissions have on the site. We already said in the past that "Everything" submissions weren't going to be accepted anymore due to the fact that it's essentially a crutch for submitters to just dump thousands of unsorted files on us, so of course your submission was going to be rejected.

I'm really angry about his answer, this even doubled my pissing off level ( xD ).

What do the staff expect from us ? To have a full time job on the site ? Will they start to pay us for it ? Which kind of sorting do they want ? Why would us start to sort anything that developpers THEMSELVES didnt sort... ?????

It's like the staff didnt think in their head(s) when they publish(ed) this kind of rules.
Some submission can be sorted I suppose, some other just cant, it's physically not possible.

EDIT : Notice that for my publication about Fallout 76, I put them into folders, but we are talking about 10k sprites, sooo... Obviouly, they considered it as "non-sorted"...

Yeah, I think I personally understand why that rule is there: because people who download the stuff don't want to do the sorting themselves. They're after specific stuff and searching through tens upon tens of thousands of files isn't exactly intuitive. I once tried to upload such a file on TSR, and I understood why they rejected it.

You can't just upload stuff all willy-nilly. Nobody wants to search through that much shit when downloading a zip! Say I wanted a specific image from your dump. I sure as hell ain't gonna sit there and check every single freaking file. Also don't just expect the admins to give you a free pass, especially after raving and ranting like you just did. Tongue

Calm down.

Firstly, the staff volunteer their time to sort through the submissions - they don't get paid for this, so why would we? It's down to you, the submitter, to organise it all, irrespective of what's holding you back away from the computer - it's a form of quality control, and if you, the submitter, don't want to take time to have the submission in a way that's practical for everyone to use (let's be honest, 10k images even if split up into multiple zips is a lot to sort through), then why would the staff take the time to entertain the submission? They're not here to be our slaves and clean up our messes, they're here to manage the site.

Next, just because the developers didn't sort them, doesn't mean we shouldn't. When I ripped Da Capo II for example, the character CGs were all in one folder. It took me more than a day to organise and sub-organise the various characters and any various outfits they were wearing into their respective zips. It makes it easier for those who download the submission to look through it for what they're looking for - if it's just one single folder with thousands upon thousands of images with multiple common themes (the best way to organise is by theme of image) then how can it be expected for anyone to use those when it's basically information overload?

So yes, the staff did think about that when they published that rule. Because as said, it's not for them to fix it, it's for you to have sorted it out accordingly in the first place. Regardless of how "physically possible" it is, it's really just down to you to take the time to do that little bit of extra organisational work. There's no suppose about it.

Uh... yes they can, it's not impossible to do nor is it rocket science.

If you have a hard time selecting a sprite, you can try using a selection tool in most image editing programs known as a "Free select tool", "Lasso tool", or a "Free-form selection".

There's a reason why that rule is in place:
So people that download the content from us can use said content a lot EASIER than it would be if it was a completely disorganized mess on a sheet or inside a ZIP file (Like these two for example).

The staff want us (the submitters) to organize our submissions, instead of dumping all the content, unorganized, into a ZIP file and call it good.
If you can't handle the heat.
You can't handle the Neutron Style.

Imagine having your clothes all over the room.

It would be quite difficult to pick the correct pieces, especially if you need specific ones from a stack. For example, your sweatshirts are not in one place but scattered and mixed up with other stacks of clothing.
