Help with extracting GUILTY GEAR 2 -OVERTURE- models
#1
Hello everyone! This is something me and some friends have been trying to wrap our brain around for a long time.

Essentially, we are trying to figure out how to extract files (specifically, rigged character models with their textures) from the game. Ninjaripper works, but we're trying to find the original, rigged and t-posed models rather than a direct, posed and unskinned rip.

The game seems to use .pkm files as containers to pack and archive files, and I've had difficulty getting anything out of these; Ravioli tools just gives me a few scattered DDS textures for environments. It's difficult to find anything about .pkm file type archives, since research just leads to nothing but Pokemon related stuff and texture file formats.

Specifically, I am attempting to extract from the PC version. Anything helps!

If you can upload one or two pkm files, I might be able to slap together something that will unpack them, though I don't think I'll be much help with the model data inside

That would be great. Someone over at Xentax helped with some PKMs in the levels folder of the game, but none of the other PKMs outside of the folder are able to be extracted, and no news yet to getting anything out of them.

Here's a ZIP with some PKMs I was unable to get any model data out of (the only ones I was actually able to extract 3D data from were the ones named "MODEL" in the level folders, which seem to only contain environment and area stuff from my knowledge). I was able to get quite a bit of textures out of them, including textures for characters/enemies and effects. If anyone can take a look that would be great-- I'm not sure if there really is any model data in these files, but it's the closest thing I can find that has the characters so far.

Here you go! This should extract all the non-empty subfiles from each PKM, but unfortunately they don't have filenames. I haven't tested it on every PKM, but the structures are the same for the ones I've looked at.

Thanks a lot for the help! Someone over at Xentax made a script that converts PKM contents into model AFB files which can be exported into FBX for blender, but the problem Is that the models have no rigs or UVs, putting a stump in our project.

Hey, finally got some time to check out the unpacker. The files seem to unpack into files without any extension? I'm not sure what to do with them.

Also, read the message above; is it possible you can help with our UV problem? I'll drop a PKM and it's subsidiary AFBs so you can take a look, along with the model's textures.

The rig issue we can live with-- we are able to rig them ourselves if the rig cant be found, but the UV issue is a big one for us.

I updated the script, it now includes extensions, but there are still no official filenames in the data.

As for the AFB files, I know next to nothing about model data, especially with a custom format like this, so maybe wait for someone more experienced to find this thread. Although I did notice some strings near the end of the files referencing "DDS" (the image files) and "BONE", so maybe the data you're looking for is around there. Good luck!

In the meantime, the TD files contain lots of textures that can be converted to PNG through common tools, you could upload some to Textures Resource

Thanks for the help, and the notes on what you found about the files!
