having some trouble with texture mapping

I have some experience doing stuff in Blender, but when it comes to texture mapping I'm basically clueless. So I'm wondering if someone could help me figure out why these textures aren't mapping properly for me.

I actually downloaded these models from TMR (well except Cloud Luigi, I ripped that one myself), and they all look okay, except for the two from Super Mario 3D Land. As you can see, their textures are definitely not mapped properly, even though in the model preview on the site they looked just fine. that poor Wallop over there has definitely seen some things.

I can use these guys as references well enough as they are, but I'd really like to figure out how to fix the texture mapping so that they don't look like actual nightmare fuel haha. I've tried messing with a few settings and nothing seems to work. help would be much appreciated Content
I like downloading models and messing around with them on Blender. that's pretty much all I do here hehehe

1. You need mirror tiling. I wonder why mirror tiling is not included by default?

An easy method for mirror tiling can be found here: https://blender.stackexchange.com/questi...-in-cycles If ping-pong (part of the math node) is not available in your version of Blender, you will need to look for another method.

2. You need to multiply the base color with the vertex color. Depending on your version of Blender, the vertex color node may be named 'Vertex Color' or 'Color Attribute'.

The node set up looks like this.

wow such a nice detailed response, thank you! I will say, though, that I have very little knowledge of how nodes work. I figured out how to open the node editor but I'm not sure how to specifically open the node for the UV Map. I hope it's not too much trouble to ask for some guidance there, or maybe a tutorial on how this stuff works Shy
I like downloading models and messing around with them on Blender. that's pretty much all I do here hehehe

In the node editor, to the left of the material name, you can find a button called "Add", click on it and at the top of the list of options will be "Search", click on that and you will be able to search for nodes by name.

I'm not sure about good tutorials, since the I learned it was by googling questions about what look I wanted to achieve, and gleaning information about various nodes from it over time. Of course, this does not always work, especially for more specialized game materials.
