How to rip models from Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition?
#1
I have a physical copy of the game and a early model Switch so what else do I need to rip character models and textures to later use in Blender?

After you get the files dumped, you'll need to unpack them. I think XbTool is the most up-to-date thing for that. Once you have things unpacked, you'll need an import tool, of which I know two that are not badly outdated:
  • Monado Forge is my tool. In addition to various options with importing the model files, it has some tools to help manipulate them once in.
  • xenoblade_blender is another tool. Haven't used it myself so I can't say how it compares to mine.

I can't seem to get Monado Forge to work properly with Blender 4.3.0, I had to slightly change where addons went (C:\Users\*insert PC username here*\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\4.3\scripts\addons) and it's causing a message to pop up saying Unexpected error; see console when I try to import models, is that an issue on my end or is it just not 4.3 compatible yet?

(In saying that, explaining dumping and the like did end up leading me to a video that showed another way to convert them to .fbx via Noesis first so thank you so so much, I was able to get what I wanted in the end.)

I haven't tried Forge with 4.2+ and I'm currently not sure if I will because of how much damage they did to the eevee renderer.

I didn't suggest the Noesis script because it's comparatively out of date, but if it's good enough for you, it's good enough for you.

I'll try and get a 4.1 Blender so I can get Monado Forge to work properly and see if it changes much.
