The forums isn't really going away. Heck, some VGR community members prefer using the forums over using the DYKG/VGR discord server.

I'm one of them, it's nice to have an overview of my projects and post some progress on sheets.
Discord is just like forums, but not really public and also needs additional software to run (which also needs frequent updates, having me to wait).
Browser version on the other hand always asks for way too much identification and with forums, I just stay logged in and that's it.

Forum software also needs to be updated - you just don't notice because Petie and I have to deal with it... However, MyBB, the forum software we use, is updated so infrequently that it has become a nightmare in terms of maintenance, functionality and security. We are closing the forums for the sake of our community, in essence, as continuing to run them into the future without any guarantee of support by its developer is dangerous.

Honest, I think it's a bad idea to close the VGR forums in favor of Discord cuz I know Discord isn't all that reliable for these 4 reasons:

• Fucking discord locked the ability to share higher data images & videos both via a paywall of Nitro & boost levels. So if thew server's boost level isn't at 2 or 3, non-nitro scubscribed newcomers/returnees will get the short end compare to those with Nitro
  

• Bots & Scammers (as hackers), that's a super common problem on discord, and yet discord staff won't do shit about it. What if someone managed to hack into Dazz's discord account & delete the entire VGR/DYKG discord server completely. Didn't thought of that happening, didn't you, Dazz?
  

• There are a few images & gifs that can get a user perma-banned from Discord if posted in a DM or text channel. One of them being a gif of a bald guy eating chips (it's from a certain forbidden kind of internet video), which is bullshit cuz that gif is in discord's gif search.
  

• Should y'all even think discord is 100% safe & won't get a update that'll ruin everything?
  

Bottom line, I don't think closing the forums in favor of discord isn't a good idea

I get where you're coming from, but I think a lot of that might be a bit exaggerated.

1. Yes, you'll have to cough up and pay for Nitro to upload larger files. But there are a lot of other services you can use to upload files, two of the probably the most common being Google Drive and MEGA. Plus, the server is currently at a level 2, so you can already upload files up to 50MB, so you would only need to use the other services in extreme cases.
   
   
2. I can't speak for the admins/mods, but I'm quite sure there is a level of verification on the server for this; Discord alone has this itself. There's no need to target Dazz like that, I'm sure the majority of Discord users have considered the possibility of their account being compromised, that's why there's 2FA and stuff. There's no need to be so arrogant there.
   
   
3. The Discord server has been active for quite a long time now, and I can say I've never seen anything like that. That's such a niche and specific issue that people wouldn't be worrying about that. I'm not straight up dismissing that, but it's quite unlikely.
   
   
4. That's quite unlikely and rather specific, too. Sure, Discord has had some bad updates in the past, but it's nothing to straight-up ruin the entire platform for everyone.
   

While it’s sad to see the forums go, I still think switching over to Discord makes sense. It’s just a lot easier to converse with people there in real time compared to traditional forums.

Why does everyone keep saying "in favor of Discord" as if we're doing this because Discord suddenly showed up on the scene? We've been running the forums alongside the Discord for years now and Discord existing has no bearing on closing the forums. Everything Dazz said is what you should be focusing on. That, combined with the overall decline in forum use, is the reason. Discord existing is just a bonus which gives us another place to gather.

Why is this worded so rudely

• Yeah Discord is kinda annoying but the server is boosted
  
• Discord account hacking really isn't that common at all unless you're stupid, and there's 2FA to delete servers lay off of Dazz
  
• The guy eating chips (it was popcorn btw) issue was resolved, besides it's a user ban not a "we're gonna delete your server if someone posts this"
  
• And I mean discord ruins a lot but it's quite a bit easier to communicate there than through forum posts, besides the updates are like, visual and not actually detrimental except to my eyeballs
  

The discord is infinitely more active than the forums anyways. And as Petie said they've been running alongside eachother for quite a long time now. not just like, one or two years.

I wasn't aware thst was resolved. But there are some gifs that'll get you prema-banned from Discord, thought I ain't looking those up for obivious reasons. Yet there's a another legit reason why switching over to discord is a bad ieda:

• What if Discord went down for a period of time? It'll suck for community members who aren't resigtered users here to not communicate with the community members...
