You clearly can't compare things unless they're side by side, so here.
First off, that's not pillow shading. That's normal shading. There is a perfect example of pillow shading in the Sprite Dictionary. Check it out, and in fact, check out the whole thread while you're at it, if you please. Second, Samus's arm cannon has highlights like that in Brawl. In an room with even lighting, the cannon will usually keep these odd highlights. Third, please look again. I know you want to be right, but there are obvious changes, like the outline shape, ankle thickness, and leg length, not to mention colour again.
Strive for victory. Vanquish defeat. And always pack the extra 1up.

imo, this Samus looks super-detailed. I think we dismissed a version of Ganondorf because he was too advanced.

I agree. It will just take too long to create Samus - even any character - if they are too complicated. Remember, the style is meant to be cartoon-y, not too realistic.
I think with somebody like samus - with her compicated design already, it would be easier not to create her as a whole, all at once, but to make her out of body parts. Look at Pokemon black and white - all of the pokemon sprites came from just editing body parts - and they managed to create animation for 649 pokemon - with around 30 frames for each one. If that makes this much easier we might as well give that a try.
Reduce the color count (from 4 to 3 shades per color) and I think it'll be fine.
Oh, and the darkest yellow is kinda eh, but that's not your fault (it might be mine :I ). If you could shift it towards brown a bit, it'd probably look less bad with the other colors.

clashx didn't even do anything wrong this time so I dunno what you're all getting so upset about. He pointed out issues he that he thought were wrong, who cares what his skill level is
and I do think the shading on the head looks kind of pillowy, and I think the visor looks like it's popping out instead of being set in the helmet. Her colors and shading are getting dark in a way that she might not fit in with the style. The leg parts don't need a separate green, and, it's probably just a mistake in recoloring, but the shoes have a shade of gray that's not used in the upper body when it could easily use a shade from there. The darker shades on the orange parts don't all match either, and the highlights on the orange/yellow parts could be made to match.

personally, when compared, i like the middle one best. the smaller shoulders are just a personal preference, but otherwise, the pose is more dynamic and the colours are used more conservatively. the only thing that should be taken from the left one is the colour pallet, which is much better.

My suggestion would be to use the one on the right and give it the palette of the left one. I prefer the bigger shoulders and the pose. It's better IMHO. And I do honestly agree that while it looks really nice, it's probably too detailed and would be difficult to animate. Maybe cut down on the highlights and shading a little bit, I dunno. I also agree with Sploder on that taco yellow shade, meh.

That's Not Detailed. Trust me I'm not that great with animating movement and stuff right now, but I know detail when I see it.

Really? Because with the way that the pixels are placed to show detail, it looks pretty detailed. Since, you know, it's detail.
I know you think you know what you're talking about, but you're honestly talking out of your ass.

It still need some serious work, but Samus was looking way too hardcore to be anywhere near this project.

Honestly, you could have probably just dropped some highlights and it would have been fine.
That being said; I still sort of prefer the Samus on the far left over the other two. I would say tweak that (maybe combine some details with the one on the far right) and we're good.

I think Kriven's edit was just what we needed

I like Kriven's better. It seems to fit the style better in my eyes.
