you could practice spriting in other projects and contribute when you can actually donate quality sprites that won't be shutdown completely/quicklyeventually replaced anyway

Well, the sprites don't have a pallet, (or I am blind) and they seem to be in a close style, though.
You could just study the sprites a bit.

I think the Sonic in the middle is best. The others are to dark, to big, and have huge foreheads.
