Mmm. By ingame lore, all Echidnas have drealocks, and are semi-tribal in nature. The number and parting of the dreads aren't really specified though.

recolouring knuckles and giving him clothes does not an original character make. try harder please.

I didn't recolor Knuckles and give him clothes, he has shorter quills, a younger more teen looking body, and is really only supposed to have 6 quills. In my sprite I got lazy, and like I said, Vortex drew the sketch, and it was an awesome sketch, so it wasn't too big of a deal that he drew too many quills.

I figured it was worth a shot, and I spent a lot of time on the art.

i think the art is okay, acctually.
but-

he has shorter/less quills, big deal. that dosen't make a difference.
i could redraw tails with three tails instead of two, and colour him blue instead of orange and give him sora's clothes and keyblade, but it would still be tails, wouldn't it?
if you want to create an original sonic character, try drawing a character from scratch that isn't one of the more common animals seen in fandom like hedgehog or echidna.

Well that is hard but not impossible. Like I have 3 hedgehogs (lol), a fox an 2 creative characters like a mouse and a ferret

Why can't people try new animals for Sonic characters. I mean not everyone has to be a hedgehog or echidna.
