This reputable source, along with many others, would say otherwise. Unless you've got a law degree and actually read the laws pertaining to this stuff, it's hard to say either way.

Sure this may not speak for every company, but common sense dictates many buy into this policy and enforce it as much as Nintendo tries to.

Also your source is old and out of date. Try finding something more current if you're going to object a point. =P

You'd be surprised how different gaming companies take this issue.

I doubt piracy policy changes that often, so a source's status as recent or otherwise hardly matters. Rolleyes

Nintendo really needs to put more of their 64 games on VC.

Your source is 10 years old. Emulation was in its infancy at that point, of course policies have changed.

Also, if I am correct, only the emulator itself is legal, as long as the program wasn't the result of reverse engineering.

Backing up any game, even PC games, is an infringement of the copyright. Of course, some companies do give you permission to make just one copy of your game, but in general the copyright law states that the backup for own use only applies to movies and music, not software.
