(and to those not familiar with this piece) ..well It lost.. to this (taken from an iphone, ignore the little buttons) Not gonna lie. I kinda raged. Should I feel bad for ragin? For being a ragin cajun? Thanked by: Gwen, Crappy Blue Luigi, Garamonde, BynineB, Proton, Zadaben, ThePortalGuru

come on starpower
everyone loves boobs, you should've known that Thanked by: Star
The fact that I was looking at that image to the point where the crawfish singing was actually starting to sing for real (when another fourm had embedded this song onto the fourm) and had ACTUAL effort put into your work kinda makes kitty sad.
.. Oh well, there's always next festival. Maybe the two crawfish of yours would terrify the kiddies they thought..?
I can make some pretty awesome boobs too.
Should've had them everywhere on my piece..even on the state in the background. Also Gaia, that song combined with the poster art made me actually lol. Not gonna lie. And well, I was thinking that too..but with my winning George Rodrigue piece(which is where the crawfish design originated from), the kids loved it. They loved the style and charisma of my crawfish. One even tried to reach out to touch it when it was on display before someone spazzed and was like "AAAAH NOOOOO, SHAAA!"... Imagine it in a black woman voice and it's dead on. But anyway, I don't see why that would be a problem. Thanked by: Gwen

I'm going to be serious, though, star-bro
while your execution is really good, I think I understand why they chose that guy's desingn over yours. His design transmits more fun than yours, imo. A festival should transmit fun, and really, yours isn't exactly /fun/. It's two crawfishes posing in front of a map of the state. It looks great, but it isn't as colorful and fun-inducing as the winner piece. That's my honest opinion though. Also, one thing that I learnt with those type of compos is that people don't really care for technique, but more for the idea AND the caricature-ish feel of the piece. I remember my sister participating on a compo to design the city's sports mascot. She did a small girl with elaborated clothing that resembled sports elements and it was the cutest thing (referencing the city's 'the little princess of the state' status), but the winner design was a plain parrot. What bugs me the most is the Graffiti of Crawfish Festival, it's totally out of place on that, and just how lazy the background is.. I see what you're saying Gors, but the effort on that winning piece seems so minimal :C

i know.
but I said before, sadly these things don't really matter if your work is simply to cater usual people. They'll end up relating more to the cartoony crawfishes dancing in a colorful background. The techniques don't really matter that much. it's a shame, I agree, but that's usually how it works :I

When designing this kind of thing, forget the 2000's existed. Look at the process to draw such iconic characters as Sonic or Eggman.
1- Use bright colours. 2- Make exaggerated cartoony. 3- Make it simple enough for a kid to easily grab a pencil and draw. Thanked by: Garamonde
