Back from Colorado with a new style(C+C)
#16
Overworld? I made this (or at least attempted too) in the Battle style. Haven't even thought about the overworld sprites yet.

Finally back from a ten day trip to Colorado, I spent a while making this:

Even though it's not complete I'm fine with leaving it until tommorow. It's the landing site from Metroid Prime 2- the big red square is where the ship will be, that thing down in the magenta is the dark beam platform, with it's pallettes, and there's a pallette for the rock walls/floors/ceilings somewhere.
The style is my own(or so I believe): All solid objects have a 1px outline of the darkest shade, and nonsolid objects have a 1px outline of the next darkest shade. There are 5(or 6 for an extra shade if needed, as in the rocks) different shades to an object. No black at all, and internal shading/highlighting is done with the next darkest/lightest shade. Lightsource depends on the scenario, i.e. the hole in the ceiling or a lightbulb. No defined pallette, though. Anyhow, excuse my rambling and C+C if you feel like it. Oh, rocks are a pain.

Oh look, an update.

Made some rocks and then worked on the ship. This is the refrence for it:[Image: metroid-prime-gunship.jpg]

eew
the ship is pretty bad
the windshield isn't even the same shape

yeah, I couldn't fit the correct windshield on the base I made. But other than the windshield, what needs to be fixed on the ship?

Couldn't fit?
There's plenty of room.

And the shading and especially palette are also rather bad. Up the contrast, add some hue-shift, etc.

This palette a bit better? I only changed the ship in the blue.

the lineart itself seems sort of... odd.
I suggest using the super metroid ship as a ref as this statue one is sort of ugly anyway

That'd probably be better, but the reason I'm doing the one in the statue is that it's the one from MP2. I'm going to leave it until I finish the rocks though.

Please please, do not mark the shading boundaries with the line tool. I will critiaue more when that is fixed.

For both MP2 and Super Metroid the ship is the same. Trust me, i had both games.
Now for critique:
You SERIOUSLY need to work on your shading! You use WAY too much gradients and you don't take much account of the 3D shapes either.
You need to improve the outline. They are way too thin and does not blend in with the shadows very well.
For the windsheild; THE SHIP IS STREAMLINED! It has depth, so the windsheild wouldn't be exactly as wide the whole way.
Try Hue Shifting the colors of the ship. It looks pretty much boring with that dark-yellow colour.
