I'd suggest working more on this sprite, you've got a good start, it just needs some work. A dolphin doesn't move like that, it's fins go up and down, otherwise it would not be able to move at such speeds as dolphins do. balladofwindfishes Wrote:That's good for a custom style. But that isn't in M&L, but I get your point, and I fixed up the Dolphin's vertical jump. And I updated the sheet again. From here on I will be posting the updated sheets from here. And next i'm planning on doing Dino Rhino. And by the way does anyone have the M&L font?
Here's the font.
Now as for comment... The sheet you have right now is close, but it needs some touching up. Check out the tutorials here (overworld) and here (battle). You're close to submission... but fix that tail in the vertical jumping sprites, please? It still looks like a shark's fin. BTW, Ballad just made the sprite morePiT-style than SS-style. Noice.

The belly's shading could use some work.

I knew it was more PiT style, I was just showing you how exactly to go about fixing up the actual shape and adding more depth to it, as it stands now it's flat and kind of boring. ML adds somewhat of a... "flavor" to each character, even older characters like Bowser, Boo, Goomba and Hammer Bro look more stylized. As of now it just looks like the SMW styled Dolphin, which is almost 20 years old, I'd think Nintendo would try to modernize the character a bit without deviating from the original style. Take Dry Bones, he used to look like a hunched over koopa without eyes and red shoes. Then Mario Baseball hit, then Mario Party, then Mario Kart and suddenly Dry Bones was his own character, with his own uniqueness to him and a new flavor to the character of a "krumbling koopa."
Now, your new edits made are exactly what the sprite needs. Now do that to the side poses, and remember, Dolphins move up and down, not left and right. If you really feel like having an adventure, you could arch the dolphins back in a few poses so its spine goes like ~ as it moves like real dolphins do.

I really don't like the lineart at all.
M&L has some nice smooth lineart, where the AAing is needed. Yours looks like you made the sprite with a good lineart, then added some crappy AAing that didn't fit at all.

...what exactly are the vertical sprites supposed to be? Swimming... in which direction? It looks like it would be swimming up, but it's facing toward us.
Also, I'm pretty sure that black is only used for the outline in M&L, never inside the sprite (unless it's for a mustache or something). However I could be wrong. Check the tutorials on TSR. They're really good. One more thing, there's still problems with the AA (even in the spots where you supposedly "fixed" them :s).
