What are you playing?
ALttP is one of the best. Not saying not to play Skyward Sword because it is fun, it's just very how do I phrase this, Small for a Zelda game. It feels very confined, and the amount of time you had to spend backtracking was mind numbing (mainly because nothing was new when you went back)

Was it small the same way Majora's Mask was? Because MM is my favorite.

I honestly thought TP was a little too big.

I think what makes it seem small is because there is little freedom to go where you want to go, everything is linear and makes you confined to one path. The world itself in Skyward Sword is very large, but they don't give you that freedom so it seems small and limited.

It's also very barren/artificial feeling. It just doesn't live and breathe like a real cohesive world like other Zelda's. ALttP for example had a very populated environment whether it was NPCs or enemies. As did Majora's Mask which by far was the most believably immersive world a Zelda game has offered/gaming in general (in my opinion). Skyward Sword just felt too artificial. I liked it, the town was cool but the explorable/mission based areas just felt desolate. Yeah they were nice to look at, but I don't know they just weren't what I was expecting nor did they really live up to the hype.

I completely agree with Koopaul. It was EXTREMELY linear and now looking back on it that may be why I felt so confined. Zelda was always open for players to explore and most of it was immediately accessible(within reason, of course completing objectives and obtaining items was necessary for progression). While Skyward Sword just didn't do this.

I remember reading an interview where they wanted to "blur the lines between dungeon and overworld" so I guess they did that by turning the overworld into a dungeon itself!

Skyward Sword of course. Much of the surface world was just one giant dungeon. Think about how you navigated that landscape. They were just outdoor dungeons.

Hm, sounds a bit Twilight Princessish... How you can't freely explore Hyrule during the first act of the game. The "Kingdom is a Dungeon" aspect also makes me think of the Twilight Bug missions. Merr...

It sounds like Skyward Sword is kind of not what I want to do when I play a Zelda game. Such a shame, because I really like the character design, at least for the Princess herself...

Edit: In other news, I've started ALttP tonight. Two pendants gotten! I'm enjoying it, although it feels a bit more slippery than the NES game was, which I didn't expect. Definitely getting better as I play through it, though, and it seems to have fixed pretty much all the issues I had with the first game. Actually fighting off the itch to boot it back up right now.

My eyes are definitely much happier with the graphics here, which are really almost soothing in comparison to the pain-inducing TP graphics.
Kind of wish I could be playing Spirit Tracks again instead, but my DS Lite is be-roked and still unreplaced. Unfortunately, my 3DS microphone doesn't seem to play nice with DS games and that's... kind of important x.x;

Considering Okami after ALttP, since I never finished that and it's kind of the same genre.

I've been playing Super Mario Bros. Crossover...version 3.0!

Lots of cool new stuff, including Super Mario Bros. DX (or whatever it's called) levels!

I swear, it's easily one of the coolest crossovers ever!

Skyward Sword is definitely worth one playthrough. As people here have suggested though, the replayability isn't there.

Oh yeah its worth it an there are definitely a lot of good ideas in there like upgrading weapons.

Honestly I'd love to see Zelda continue with the upgradeable weapons idea.

Just don't bring back shields breaking. Screw that. That is a thing I don't want to worry about ever. I mean, even if my shield only broke once it's just not a fun mechanic and not a cool rupee sink (like everything else).

I actually kind of liked it, it forced me to consider different tactics and approaches to situations.

Played Breath of Fire 3 a little. These rare drops are dumb. I wonder if I'll ever get a Goo King Sword? Sure, I don't need it, already beat the game, can take down Archmages and Berserkers without too much difficulty...but it would just be fun to get some of those rare items I've never gotten before. Also, power leveling is fun in this game somehow. Also, in this playthrough, my set-up has MAGE GARR. So, that's fun.
