The watchmen one looks like its facing a completely different direction than the sprite reference you have next to it. The lightsource also does not look like its coming from above, but rather to the side (torso), at an opposite angle to the torso (the hat). In the NamcoxCapcom WIP, Mario does not look as though he has joints, but its probably too early to crit.

Golden sun's style doesn't look GS at all, though. It's tilted to the side, instead of a frontal-side pose.
