Well, they couldn't completely leave it out if they were going to...I mean, the Elite 4's there, so at the very least, we knew Indigo Plateau was coming back

I kind of figured they would keep Kanto, but I'm glad it's confirmed. I mean finally, we can go to two regions in one game again...

If they had; Johto was so devoid of content on its own, then the remake would have been pretty shallow. Originally it was kinda shallow WITH Kanto, too (which is why they've had to pad this game out with a fuckload of new stuff).

I would have expected them to add a bunch of new areas in Johto without Kanto and space everything out like in that one fake map we saw a while back.

There's a river down the route from Blackthorn. That wasn't in GSC. There seems to be a new part of Ilex Forest to the left, as well as a similar one the left of Lake of Rage.

Oh, and that big yellow patch west of Lake of Rage, north of Tin Tower. It looks like some sort of desert.
