very stupid question coming from me, but if i were to make my own game using say GameMaker, could i put it on one of these cards and play it on the ds?

You can make your own homebrew DS games and play them on your ds flashcard thought.

i don't have any idea how to make fangames for the DS but i know it's possible because i downloaded a few.
if you can make a game that will run in any ds emulator then it will run on your flash card.
You could always google 'how to make homebrew ds games'.

google and get PAlib and Devkit Pro
those will allow you to make DS homebrew

you'll need to learn C++, though
