Assist Trophies and Pokemon
Why would Metal Sonic be able to preform a random final smash?
Metal Sonix could always fire a few lasers, or mimic the CD dash type thing he had and ram into people. After ramming into a few people he blows up, or if he happens to hit a wall he blows up

I dunno about that. I mean I don't think it needs to go overboard with third party characters, but I don't really see the need for a set limit at the moment. We aren't Nintendo, we're not developing an official game for them, and so there's not a good reason to do that. However, just because this isn't an official game doesn't mean we shouldn't make it look like it could have been. I'm really not for making the assist trophy qualifications much stricter, but I'm not going to become more lenient with them as time goes on either.

It really doesn't matter yet anyway. While Pokemon were relatively simple to make a final roster for, assist trophies are meant to be representations of many games and therefore I'd like to keep taking ideas for at the very least another month or two. Obviously there's only so many people that sprite well and are willing to sprite for this project and there WILL have to be some cuts to the current assist trophy cast. That doesn't mean I'm going to put a set limit on the amount of assist trophies per series though. I'm going to have to go with the ones that fit best gameplay wise.

The point is, I'm not going to drop well a few well designed third party assist trophies just so we can have some lackluster first party assist trophies in. I'm not biased toward either type of assist trophy; I just want to focus on putting in assist trophies that work well ingame rather than putting in a majority of first party just to say in the end that we did. If it ends up being that there's a lot of assist trophies from a particular series I want it to be because they work well ingame and NOT because they're from X series.

Well it just doesn't seem right that a third-party would be getting more ATs than a first party...

And besides no offense many of those suggestions are stupid. Gerudo Gaurd? Shouldn't assist trophies be more important characters?

ill explain what i meant; Chaos hits the floor, a hole appears in the floor and water squirts out and sprays in several directions. If anyone is hit by the water, they get a small amount of % and is forced back a considerate amount

Also, I got the idea of Metal sonic from sonic rivals 2, as he copies his opponents signature move. But maybe he could just fire random projectiles if thats any better?

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say important characters, Koopaul, moreso iconic. Example being the Hammer Bro, who isn't really a character at all, just an enemy. However, he's probably the most difficult enemy of the original Super Mario games, so... Yeah, iconic characters.

Also, if push comes to shove, not everybody NEEDS a corresponding AT. If I remember correctly, there were characters in Brawl that didn't have corresponding trophies, such as Ice Climbers and Pit. There were also a large amount of characters who had no games being represented at all, such as Little Mac, Dr Wright, Isaac, Saki, Ray, etc.

My personal opinion is that it would be NICE for each third party to have at least one (in Brawl it seemed like both the third parties got an AT out of courtesy for the use of their character), but going overboard and suggesting every possible supporting character from a series. This seems to be most apparent with Sonic right now, but to put it in perspective, imagine if I was to suggest an AT for all 10 Ranked Assassins from No More Heroes for Travis Touchdown. Seems superfluous, doesn't it?

I agree I'm not saying we should allow all the characters from one series to be the majority of assist trophies, but each game doesn't need to be represented either. If you look on the first post here, you'll see that Zelda characters have the most ideas in there right now with Sonic characters I believe at a close second. I'm more than a little sure that a lot of ideas are going to end up getting axed.

I see what you're talking about now. I still don't like the Metal Sonic idea a heck of a lot, but the Chaos idea seems okay. Just know that like I said I'm not going to let this game end up overpopulated with content from a single game so it might not stay.

I agree that there's a fair few far-fetched ideas in there, but its the sum of what the community has come up with so far. If you've got some good characters to suggest then I'd be happy to add them. I myself am not all that good at coming up with ideas.

I personally like the Idea of metal sonic randomly firing rockets around the stage.

He flies down, and faces all sorts of directions firing things. Almost like he seems to flail back with force in the air every time he shoots a rocket. The rockets should also start out slow and wobbly, and slowly gain speed and aim towards the target. It would also be cool if the rockets randomly picked someone besides the person that opened the assist trophy, and sorta locked on them, like the bullet bill in mario galaxy, just not as much lockage(?)

I don't think any Metal Sonic fire rockets. Mecha Sonic MK-II (Sonic & Knuckles) does shoot a spheric laser projectile from his torso, though.

Ahem. Anyone suggest Midna? The fact is she's a very popular character that couldn't make as a fighter here but she could as an AT. Believe me. Think on the lines of that.

Most people including me don't really want to make characters do actions they are never likely to do in their own game. It would be like giving Mario an assault rifle for a few of his attacks. It just doesn't really make sense.

Chu Chu Rocket seems like a cool series to have in in some way.

Maybe have the cat chasing a few mice across the stage and hurting people as he ran into them until the mice find a rocket and leave. If we did that then it would be neat if players could throw the mice around to redirect the cat towards another player. I dunno I'm just throwing out a random idea.
