But, it's too late to argue about that now.
@koopaul,
while I agree that being in SSB is supposed to represent importance, I think that gameplay would trump that, if only by a little bit. If too many characters have similar attack styles, you start going into clone-type issues.
Of course, in Lyn's case, she really needn't use just her sword; as far as I know, she is also the only Lord in the series who can use a bow. Okay, so does Link, but there should still be other ways to do a bow/sword combo.

Roy's Melee appearance is obviously based on his maximum level Lord form.
edit: because his attacks flippin own

Ike is one of the bulkiest and slowest fighters in Smash AS IS. The Black Knight is even HEAVIER and SLOWER than Ike. As much as I like Black Knight as a villain, he'd be near useless in Smash.
However, if there's an Adventure Mode, I suggest you guys use The Black Knight as the Fire Emblem Boss Character. Even over some of the massive dragons.
Give the 4th FE character to a F-Zero or Advance Wars character =o

Or give it to a Metal Gear character. *cough* Raiden *cough*

^ ANOTHER sword user!
I'm just gonna say, don't worry about giving FE another character for awhile. I don't see why the series needs a 4th character, seeing it's not really all that popular. Instead, save the spot for another series.

sword users could still be unique if done properly. right now most of the sword users are relatively slow in comparison to normal attacks. an extremely fast, dramatic (awesome pause at each slash effect) would still be very different. also, the black knight could make an interesting *tons of buildup, extremely fast actual attack* character. like he takes a while to lift the sword then smashes it down super fast.
gray fox and raiden both use blazing fast sword styles (and raiden also has a knife on his ankle) and are drastically different from other characters.
and sothe is still a good idea in terms of FE characters. kosh made a solid movelist so i don't see why we WOULDN'T pick him.

I don't think Sothe seems iconic enough compared to other FE characters.
It would be like: "Sothe is a character but Lyn is an AT?"

I don't know a damn thing about Fire Emblem but I know I wouldn't pick Sothe simply because he isn't a girl and I feel there needs to be more Female representation.

Well I mean if you guys want Sothe, then the majority wins, I have nothing against him. I personally would just prefer Lyn or Miciah
