I like where the direction of the game is going so far to be honest.
but downloading three episodes separately? I'd rather wait and see if they come out with all 3 in a bundle once they finish off the 3rd episode.

Mad Gear has some interesting gimmicks, but the level felt so straightforward that it just makes you lose the interest of them, it's kind of the same problem I had with Sonic Advance 2, it just incentivated you to go forward and forward through a shitload of ramps and loops and then with no warning, it showed a small gimmick that required you NOT to hold forward for a bit even though you had to hold forward for the rest of the level. You just lose the interest on the gimmick and keeps holding forward even though you'll be thrown to an alternate path that takes longer to finish the level or to a bed of spikes.
edit: there seems to be actually 5 levels, since one of the achievements mentioned a fifth level, E.G.G. Station Zone, although the level wasn't in the leaked soundtrack, so it might be either two things:
- E.G.G. Station Zone's songs were not included in the soundtrack, either because they weren't composed yet or because the one who leaked did not have access to it
- E.G.G. Station Zone = Final Zone

Wow, now that the entire game has been leaked, Sonic Retro has incorporated a full-on embargo of sonic 4 discussion.
Even talking about the game will net you an instant permaban.
Apparently SR user Infinity is the one who leaked the game, and people are assuming SR has initiated lockdown because Sega has threatened them with legal action.

And I was wondering where the Sonic 4 topic went.
It's odd that the admins allowed the leaks to float in that topic for a while. Something serious must have caused them to suddenly lock down the forums and ban members who repost leaks. A legal threat from SEGA would be very, very plausible...
Well now that it's leaked what is everyone's thoughts? I'm still getting Sonic 4, it's delivering what I want a retro experience. What say the rest you?

My thoughts?
They couldn't even do a new final boss, what the fuck. I'm seriously disappointed. I hate how Sonic 4 has no storyline at all, just a bunch of rehashed levels and a rehashed ending from Sonic 2/Sonic 1. The base is destroyed but we don't know HOW THE FUCK the base is, or HOW did Sonic get there, or HOW he got out. All it happens is Sonic is running away from a base that is at least half a lightyear away from the Earth, and then all of a sudden he's running around in Splash Hill Zone, exactly like the Sonic 1's ending, in every single way possible.
But at least the cliffhanger ending got me excited. I'll just hope that Episode 1 was just doing rehashes as of fear to do something new and displease the fans, and they'll actually get serious and try to do a real sequel on Episode 2.

This post from another forum sums up my thoughts perfectly:
Quote:I know I'm playing right into the "fans proclaim they will never be fooled again" part of the cycle, but is there any way older fans could be excited about a Sonic game again? I mean, Sega pulled out the "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" card. The "sequel to the games of your childhood" card. I really think if this game really is awful, it'll be the last straw for old fans.
Could this be where the Sonic Cycle goes too far?

your cycle < my dick.
why cant just play the god damn game and just enjoy it for the sake of it being a game. no one of us did nitpick the old games and we just sat ther and enjoyed them and now we just force it out as if every sonic game had to be the perfect game. god all this over analysis sickens me.
I'm going to agree with Francisco. I seem to enjoy all the Sonic games that are bad. Heroes, Secret Rings, Chronicles..

Please don't start arguments about Sonic Cycle or about the fandom, this is just so fucking stupid.
P.S.: Sonic 4 is better than most of the shit SEGA tries to pull and seems to be definately a fun game. But it bugs me a lot that they are just being so cheap and remaking everything instead of trying to exceed the classics. Sonic 4 means that there should be improvements over Sonic 3 and all its predecessors, and not the opposite.
P.S.2: Secret Rings was gr8.

I think Sega's just experimenting with the first episode before making any huge jumps in improving things. If I were expecting something like that I'd wait for the second episode to come out.

yeah, I'm gonna agree with that. perhaps this is why they went episodic?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that was to make more cash.
Make 3 or more episodes at 5 bucks each rather than one whole game at ~10 bucks gets you more cash. Not to mention a possible "compilation" game on disc could be sold for 30 bucks, and chances are that downloaders would get the disc also, meaning they'd get repeat buyers, aka more cash.
I think that was more from a business standpoint.
