How did this become a fighting games discussion? You know you don't have to play fighting games to be a gamer.

Actually, about the holding back to block thing, I am being serious. (for once)
Every time I try to play Street fighter/KOF/other fighting games where block isn't a separate button, when I want to move backwards, I block, and when I want to block, I move backwards. I've lost countless matches from two essential moves being placed under the same "button" because the game always gets confused on which I want to do.

I have yet to see an argument for why it isn't.

Because it's a staple system and an incredibly convenient placement for the block button instead of taking up an attack button slot.
protip: blocking is automatically initiated if you're holding back and the enemy is attacking. Otherwise, you'll keep moving backwards. Holding back to block allows you to keep a strong defense AND simultaneously retreat. It's a hundred times more efficient than holding a block button. If holding back to block doesn't "work" for you, you're probably not good at fighting games. Also, here's a tip; if you're playing the following games; Street Fighter - take more advantage of jumping forward and backward. II and IV are almost completely dedicated on maneuvering by jumping. King of Fighters - Take advantage of the NINE DIFFERENT WAYS to jump. Combine that with the ability to roll forward and backward. Tekken - Take advantage of mixing up sidestepping with back and forward movement. Like in a real fight, you should be moving at all times. Blazblue/Guilty Gear - DASH AROUND A LOT. Hell, they give you air dashing and double jumping for a reason.

I honestly cannot recall auto-blocking ever working for me. I'll need to play some street fighter again.
One of the things I really like about tekken and sc is that instead of backing up, you can move to the side to avoid stuff. That way, you can still dodge while moving in on your opponent.

Had I had a Xbox though, chances are I would have gotten that because although Spawn is broken, he's still fucking amazing and I could rock ANYONE with him Spawn wasn't that broken. Necrid, though, goddamn. Stupidest character in the whole bunch, but Necrid was my go-to guy when I needed to clean house and my man Raphael wasn't cutting it.

Yeah, I main Nightmare, but if I start losing then I whip out Necrid and start destroying my opponent, hahaha
