RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-18-2012 There lies the rub. Basically the player would move around and attack, and the enemy would sort of have limited movement and defenses, but the main thing would be properly avoiding or preparing for enemy attacks. It'd be a lot like those Kirby Superstar RPG battles: Only it wouldn't swap between Enemy and Player turns, it would generally be active all the time. If anyone knows any free, easy-to-use, but also versatile RPG making software (What I'd be looking for is animated backgrounds, custom battle statuses, among other things), I'm all ears to that too. Otherwise I could always just do some reading about MMF2 RPG making. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - Gors - 06-18-2012 this kind of reminds me of my old-as-fuck RPGs. They didn't have any battle scenes, so it was basically a huge fetch quest. But the places and things were so absurd it didn't get as boring as it would if I had stuck with a conventional RPG plot. Maybe you could get away with a similar approach, but making turn based RPGs can be amusing and even funny if done right. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - Crappy Blue Luigi - 06-18-2012 are you thinking of something like the battle system in Live A Live? it's psuedo-turn-based, in that nothing happens if you're not doing anything, and once you do something, enemies get to do something too, but you can move freely in real-time. moving takes up turns for every space moved, but will go uninterrupted unless an enemy decides to take their turn after you move. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-18-2012 What I thought might be a fun idea is to make an RPG that IS turn based, but ISN'T based entirely on the whole traditional RPG stats system where there's like 40 stats that are all constantly being called into question. For example, having battles where the menu system changes the available commands. Instead of "Attack, Psi, Item", etc, suddenly for the next battle against a specific opponent the commands suddenly become "Tickle, Flirt, Annoy", and you have to find out what works on that boss. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - Star - 06-18-2012 These type of things made me wish I had an IP that represented myself <__> brb gonna go make one This is brilliant. Pure brilliance. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-18-2012 I'm doing some research on different options I can do for the gameplay. In the future I think I'll test a few out and post a demo containing several different options and see what people like the best. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-18-2012 Okay, I'm a liar, but after doing these I couldn't resist posting them, especially since these two haven't been represented yet. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - Lexou Duck - 06-19-2012 how did i not see this before this is amazing i simply cannot grasp the true form of this project (edit : oh hey we're rep bros) RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-19-2012 Probably haven't heard about it because this didn't happen yet: RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-19-2012 Alright, I have a serious addiction... RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - Baegal - 06-19-2012 Using the Kraken's head for the claws is really clever; I wouldn't have thought of that :] You know, I've always wondered why Kraken's sprite was so poorly done in comparison to the others (I mean look at all of the jaggies). RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TheGreatGatsby - 06-19-2012 Oh my god that's freaking awesome, I love you. He looks a lot like Gatsby's evil twin... let me fetch a picture of him real quick... RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TomGuycott - 06-19-2012 Evil Gatsby!? Wait, I forgot to make his claw blue. Really I made the claws red because of how they appeared in one post in Crappy's Beat-em-up thread. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - TheGreatGatsby - 06-19-2012 (06-19-2012, 11:25 PM)TomGuycott Wrote: Evil Gatsby!?Eheh, yeah, I figured! Everyone who's taken a shot at spriting or drawing Gatsby from here seems to have drawn him with his Beat 'Em Up Boxing Gloves, which I don't really mind. Naturally, his claws are blue, though. The gloves were just a silly idea I came up with. I suggested it to Crappy, and he went along with it. That looks really awesome, by the way. RE: tsrBound: How Sponge Saved Christmas [Idea][In Development][Fangame?] - Gors - 06-19-2012 yeah, since you were made 'famous' on the BEAT EM UP game, everyone thinks you have red claws (myself included). Which, IMO, gives the character a ncie contrast. since you're here you can expect to be represented in more projects...... |
