Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - E-Man - 12-17-2009 This is E-Man again. The rules didn't say anything about posting another topic when you already got a topic going, so I'm making another sprite related topic while I wait for criticism on the other topic. Instead of anything animated or related to the world of Shantae, I'm going to have a change of pace by trying something else. Here we have is some pixel art of everyone's favorite underling of underlings, Goomba! If there's anything I need to change, do let me know before I decide to send it off to have it submitted. RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - GrooveMan.exe - 12-17-2009 It's a bit too simple for it to be worth submitting. You've only used 2 shades per hue, which is rather underdone, since you're not trying anything tricky with the shading and have every colour ever at your disposal. The lines of shading are also a bit flat too. The lineart is ok - the eyebrows came out especially well - but there just nothing... 'oomph' about it. =/ RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - E-Man - 12-17-2009 (12-17-2009, 05:34 PM)GrooveMan.exe Wrote: It's a bit too simple for it to be worth submitting. This time I added more colors to the shading and colored the outlines. As for the line art, I was trying to give the Goomba a simple pose. You want me to alter it to make the pose less simple and the line-art better? RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - Baegal - 12-17-2009 Make the body have a black outline too to fit the style, or at least just around the edges. I don't think the eyes need a third shade for eyes, and you could make the lines get thicker at some points and thin out at others like you did with the eyebrows. Also, you could try some dithering here and there, preferably on the shoes. AA would also smooth it out more RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - E-Man - 12-17-2009 (12-17-2009, 07:41 PM)Charlie the Misfit Toy Wrote: Make the body have a black outline too to fit the style, or at least just around the edges. I don't know about the thinning out the line thing, but I'll try your other suggestions! However, I also need to work on something for Christmas, so don't expect the new pixel art anytime soon. RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - Vipershark - 12-17-2009 you, uh only added one more shade it's still plain also the feet just seem to be two ovals that are beside the "bottom" area. iirc the goomba has "half-circles" for feet, not ovals. Though they're not exactly full ovals. RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - LeleleleMAXIMUM - 12-18-2009 That's basically what vs meant. pixelart isn't just bigger sprites. RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - Cobalt Blue - 12-18-2009 to be honest, there is no real reason why this shouldn't be made as a vector. it would look ten times better and it would be ten times easier to be done. why? because for such simple thing as a goomba i'd privilege details over size. same as if you did a kirby. unless you started to work on giving it well made textures o actually animated it somehow(besides blinking his eyes or something simple like that). RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - Jovian-12 - 12-18-2009 the eyes look sort of misaligned; the one to our left looks a bit slanted and doesn't reach down as far as the right one, and the right one could probably be moved over a bit and not be so squished in the middle. they just look kinda close together is all. the foot to our left could probably be pushed inward a bit too, from the way you have it now and compared to the right foot it looks like it's sticking outward. RE: Now let's try some pixel art for a change... - Sengir - 12-18-2009 You could always try anti-aliasing |
