In the task manager you can also right click on the program and hit "Go To Process", if you didn't know.
Sounds like the program is just locking up, if you can hear other sounds the process has frozen, if you can't get any other audio to play, your audio drivers have crashed, which is a bigger problem but fortunately way less likely.
Personally I'd suggest not using WMP, there are plenty of alternative programs out there that will play whatever media it is you want to way better, Winamp, Media Player Classic, Foobar, VNC Player, and so on.
