Okay, I'll remove the pixel on the eye. (That bothered me too.)
What's hurting the readability on the arm? Should I make the limbs brighter?

In Super Mario Brothers Deluxe, I think there were two blocks like that in Versus mode.

What about making thing more simple? Your NES SSB sprites are one of your best, while in the others, the shading effects are overused.
