I don't think the fundamentals should change. I don't think it's even possible to change them too much.
Every now and again yes, a game does come along that breaks the mold (Metal Gear on MSX). You never hear of technology being pushed by gaming, but more gaming making the most of what technology is available.
If the 360 was the first console to be made would the games be as advanced now? No, of course not because gaming has aged. Everything starts simple. I'm not trying to say that Halo 3 is Pong in disguise and we've just made it look nicer but just like a movie or any other piece of entertainment the frame has remained pretty much the same over the years.
Play Space Invaders and if your game you'll know what to do because you recognise the frame work even if you've never played the game. Yes games like Killer 7 and movies like Pan's Labyrinth may mix things up a bit and "twist" the frame and Nintendo may claim that things that really aren't games (Wii Music) really are but in most cases the frame has remained the same and shouldn't be changed.

Kid Icarus was amazing. IT would have been wonderful grpahicsw in the era that game is from. Learn to appreciate and not criticize, I beat the game, It wasn't easybut I did. I think if a new kid icarus game came out, i would camp outside walmart until they put it on the shelf, and i would kill anyone to have the first copy.

I love retrogames, and yeah the graphics are nice but the gameplay is broken. It tries everything and succeeds at nothing.

Okay, I didn't read all the replies on this, but here's my two cents:
People want to bring back the series because many people view it as a classic. Plus, its like a new fad to bring back old things. But, when they do this, they revamp the old thing to make it look more badass, so it would appeal to the fresh new generations, that are part of the demographic group that is aimed at. A classic example of this is the Transformers movie.
Also, if it certain amount of rep, credit, or hype is inserted on anything, then it won't matter how much that thing sucked. An example of this is the TV series Bananza.

I just don't think Nintendo know what they're doing anymore, I mean look at who they let make Yoshi's Island DS. The SNES game was platforming gold yet they gave it to a shitty company...
Everyone knows that Duck Hunt the RPG will beat the new Kid Icarus game in sales anyway.

Yoshi's Island was not THAT bad, Also Mother 3/Earthbound 2 could be considered for a port on to the DS after Nintendo sees how well Earthbound does in America from virtual console, Which in fact will happen eventually.

Yes, I've heard of it a few years ago. But fan translation isn't official release. They SHOULD release an official release.
