Faeldspr's Top-Down Sprites
#76
Make the tail a little longer, it is way too short compared to the front sprite.

Yeah make the tail longer, that way you can simultaneously show that this is a long creature.

Yeah top-down view for a long creature. I remember trying that and failing years ago. Didn't have the help back then.

Well anyway it's looking really good now!

How's this?

I've redesigned the side head to be more thin and streamlined.

Anything that needs fixing apart from the shading on the underside?

Compared to your front and back view sprites, the side view is way too long. I'd suggest to shorten it to about 2/3 or even one half of its current length. Try to get some continuity - when you use the sprites in a game and switch between front/back and side view, it should not look awkward.

Yeah, I did wonder that. What would you say about the head? I'll definitely shorten the body and tail.

You know, after this you should try the velociraptor in another style. I feel that you really wanted to portray this creature with accurate proportions which you simply cannot do with topdown as you can see.

Yeah I did, but I'm glad you guys told me to do proper top-down as I think it's worked out better and I've learned a lot. Which style would you recommend? Profile view like a platformer?
Anyways, here's a quick update.

I've just shrunk it loads. How does the shading look?

Cleared up a slight kink in the back and tidied up the shading slightly. I also made it darker round the eyes.

The tail is a bit shaky. Try making it a bit longer and a bit more vertical.

What do you think of this? I edited the tail and added the arm and leg.

It's still too long compared to the other sprites. In fact, the front and back sprites make it appear to be sitting down, or something similar. Try and rectify one or the other.

You mean like this?

Not quite. Take a look at where you've put the legs. In the front sprite, they're at the same Z-level (depth) as the head, or thereabouts. On the side pose, they're further back into his body.

I was going to redo the legs and arms anyway, they were just a mock-up really.
