I believe the "sand"? tiles are a little too consistent, try adding a bit more to the pattern or it look unnatural.

yeah the sand is too unappealing, mostly because of it's lack of texture
see how kirby has special tiles made to give the sand texture

fuck the sand for now, I am testing other styles for this type of game. The version I'm happy with, at the moment, is the 32x32 sprite in the pink box
The main reason for this is to give Runa a more 'SNES' feel, also small sprites work better with 16x16 tiles. I am still experimenting

Well it has more of a uh... how do you say, "fullness/solidness" to it (it's shinier, her hair looks thicker.. I'm terrible at describing my thoughts) but I actually think it has less charm than the original. It's not bad by any means, though.

I am really satisfied with this style, I started some frames.
