I really should be studying but I thought your idea was interesting so I gave it a shot
(This reminds me of my canned Zelda SRPG project...good times!)

What I could draw out from the pictures I used as references was that you really need to bring out those shadows. You need to overemphasize the dark areas with black, with some glint at the opposite side of the lightsource. You shouldn't just trace the left side with black though, every area that ought to cast shadows needs to have this treatment.

Overall, I think your objects might need to have darker outlines if you are to follow this shading style. You might need to spike up the saturation on your colors to make them contrast better, as in the MM artwork, but it's not that big of a deal.

Outside of the stylistic changes, I think everyone looks a little slanted...even within this perspective. You probably should bring Link's head further a little, too.

It was a little rushed, but I hope that's useful somehow!

Oh man, that looks almost exactly like what I was aiming for!
I guess my attempt was too half-assed, probably. Palette is the one from
that Ordon Link topic, if you remember, only with slight additions.
(Zelda SRPG sounds interesting btw.)

Ah, no, I meant regular Link. I didn't realize that was meant to be a kid. Or was it?

Well, Majora's Mask Link is more of a teenager...
I also don't have any height references, so :/

Really? I thought MM took place only a short time after OoT. If I'm right, the "adult" link in OoT is only 17 years old.

I think it said somewhere that Link is older in MM, and that's why he can use the bow and stuff.

link still and is a child in mm. he pretty much uses the same model from oot. he still might be slightly older, but nothing that big. probably around 10/11.

heck, even in the artwork, theyre roughly the same size!!

Well, I'm sure I read it somewhere.
Honestly I don't really care that much.

I think they're mostly okay, though Cremia is not going so well.

...Now that I think about it, Fierce Deity doesn't look too good. I'll fix that.

I first did something with a limited palette, then it kinda... Evolved.

It could be a little turn-based SRPG.

Started on an FF Tactics-like attack animation. Critique would be appreciated.

I looked up the Majora's Mask style artwork, so I know what you're going for, but I don't think it works well for sprites that size. They kinda look flat, and the light on the back of the dark area looks like an edge, as though they were cutouts that were stood up or something. I like your regular shading style better; it seems to have more depth to it, though maybe it could use a little more contrast, especially on that kid.

Okay, but I was kinda thinking about critcism regarding the SRPG stuff.

In the animation, the way the legs shift around is awkward. One foot should probably remain anchored during the entire cycle, instead of it slipping around (of course that's fixed easily enough just by moving the sprite around I guess).
