Welp, I've tried out REmake and RE0 HD and I guess I just have to admit that I simply don't like these old RE games. I find them clunky and awkward, but that would be mostly okay if the camera angle wouldn't change in ways that make my character run back and forth from one screen to the next because from one angle Up is Up and from the next Up is Down or Left or Right. The original RE is just not gonna happen. I made myself play RE0 for a couple of hours and it's better but I'm not really sure if I'm having fun with it or not. That usually means I'm not. Oh well :-\

I'm switching back and forth between Injustice 2 and Xenoverse 2. Or maybe I just like saying 2. ...2!

been enjoying my single player experience through Blue Revolver, finally got my hands on the full game. this game doesn't fool around, i can barely finish a level short of breath. but i FINALLY unlocked free play mode so that i can see the game through to the end (and die many times in the process). highly recommended for anyone curious to start/excited to return to vertical scrolling shooters!
as for massive multiplayer recently i've been fooling around in Second Life (i was mildly curious and had some friends recommend it to me, hush), Final Fantasy XIV, and The Elder Scrolls Online.

I got my hands on Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Animal Crossing New Leaf Welcome Amiibo earlier. Though I lack a WiiU (SB got for ownership purposes until this is resolved), I can finally play a game I've enjoyed watching done by Vinesauce.

That reminds me, I've still got a few WII U games to finish myself. As for Rise of Lyric, well, enjoy the "onslaught of game-breaking glitches" if you actually do get to that.
...Is what I'd be saying if I only followed general hear-say and not my instinct, on that fateful day.
...Seriously though. Why do people think THAT is comparable to '06, again? When it doesn't even get near that level of stupid? Been askin' myself that question since I first played it three/four years ago, and I'm STILL not getting answers on that.
And yes, I know of its "beautiful perversion" of a development cycle (Among other things). Still doesn't explain it to me one bit. I mean, let's actually compare and contrast for a sec, shall we?
IN THIS CORNER: Unpolished generic kids platform/beat-'em-up hybrid #whoskeepintrackanymore
IN THAT CORNER: What was originally considered by everyone (And yes, SEGA included) a near-franchise killer.
Dunno about you guys, but I think I know which of the two feels more comfortable "losing brain cells" over, thank you very much.
...And with that, my incendiary opinion quota is officially filled. Now to see how many ulcers I cause with this one.

I'd consider Rise of Lyric worse because it's terminally boring. 06 can be downright hilarious at times because of how seriously it takes itself, the truly regrettable voice acting, and the goofy looking NPCs. I can have fun playing Sonic 06 with a friend just by making fun of the game's brokenness, and I'm not gonna lie, there's a couple points where one might feel like they're having fun on purpose. Plus it actually has a decent soundtrack.
Rise of Lyric is such a bore in comparison. It's just bad. At no point is it so broken it makes me laugh, at no point is it legitimately entertaining, and the soundtrack is so dull and weak it puts me to sleep. There's nothing there to poke fun at, either. It's a black hole of a video game that is infinitely worse in its blandness than the notably-and-occasionally-entertainingly awful 06.
... At least, that's how I feel. I can't speak for everyone, but I've met more than a few who agree with me.
Meanwhile I've been playing a lot of Xenoblade lately, both 1 and 2. It's interesting seeing the differences between the two games. I'll say I feel like the battle gameplay of 2 is more engaging with its combo focus, but 1 has far better characters and story. It's not to say I hate Rex and his crew, but they're just so bland in comparison and I'm still not entirely sure what the end goal here is even though I'm about 100 hours in. I also hate most of the character designs, so Xenoblade 1 is also slightly more aesthetically pleasing in that regard.
Well, one other thing I guess - in Xenoblade 1 playing as other characters at times can actually provide a fun, refreshing way to play without horrendously crippling yourself. Even though Shulk's AI ain't that great, if you need to fight Mechon he's at least smart enough to cast Monado Enchant as soon as possible. Point is, I can have a grand ol' time playing as the other main cast members.
At the point I've reached in 2, there's literally no reason to ever not play Rex because his gameplay is so incredibly superior to literally every other character. It's kind of a drag because I'm cutting my combat effectiveness in half by not directly playing as him.
Morag's also not a very good Tank compared to Tora, but I think I'm just running a bad loadout on her.

Oh wow, someone actually responded to that blurb. Amazing.
...But yeah, that's another piece of the whole equation that I simply don't get. Now, I understand the appeal of bad media reviews and all, of course, and usually the worse the media, the better. That, I don't have a problem with.
That being said, I never understood that "if it's boring then it's bad no question asked" logic that tends to come with it. That, and sometimes it feels like a thinly-veiled excuse to overtly trash something for simply existing. At least, that's how it feels like at times.
It could also be that I'm not really the kind of guy who hates something just for bein' a snorefest. Generally, a piece of media that people consider "boring" or being just... there, I essentially think of it as... well, that. Just bein' there. All there is to it. It exists, and it's not really hurtin' anybody for it.
...Okay, maybe in this case it's not an entirely accurate assessment, given that BigRedButton's reputation kiiinda went down the tubes after all's said and done, but given the fact that they were reportedly bleeding staff during the game's development AND the fact that said game concerned a separate, then-new continuity that, even back then, had peeps ridiculin' it only because it was a thing...
But yeah. My two cents on the matter. You're entitled to your own opinion, and I can respect that. But me, I just don't see it fit to attack ROL as vehemently as virtually everyone else did.

To combat the burnout, I've been trying a lot of backlog lately... But only really played Skyrim SE. Good game on its own, but the expansions and fanmade mods make it way better. Warlock's Tower is a surprisingly good GB-esque puzzle game. Torment Tides of Numenera is one I've kept from playing for a long, long while. Princess Maker 2 Refine.... In a word, the grating voice acting and ENGRISH translation make it less enjoyable than the original. Curse of Monkey Island is still one of the best adventure titles out there, though the bare-bones port on Steam does it no justice. I'm super happy to have begun Suikoden I again. XD
