Forum Styling General Thread
#1
I figured it was best to just make a catch-all thread for all the issues regarding styling updates (and issues, etc) since the software update caused a lot of things to look different.
If you have a particular comment or issue regarding how the forum pages themselves look, please post it here instead of Suggestions or Errors so that it can be addressed more directly.

I'll be posting changes that I'm making in here as well.

General update:
Rearranged the Classic style postbit back to the way it was on the old software (though personally I'd probably rearrange it further now that I know how...) as well as centered user information under the avatar.

I notice that with larger posts (exhibit A) the user information block kind of stops while the post background itself carries on beneath that. Is it possible to allow the user block to stretch (exhibit B) and keep only a fixed amount of the post background visible? I think it creates a much nicer looking margin that way.

Yeah, I've been looking into that for the past few minutes because I think it's really annoying and ugly but I'm not entirely sure how to change it since the way it was done on the old software compared to the new is completely different.
I have an idea of how to cheat it though (just turn that border white) but I'm not sure if I can actually stretch that entire area. I'll keep looking into it but maybe Dazz or Petie will be able to change it entirely.

I'm not sure where to post this, but since it's related to the forum, perhaps this is the best thread?

The thread pages seem to have a few flickering elements pickled throughout the page. For example, some posts will have the "Thanked by" list flickering constantly, the "Next Newest" link at the very bottom, etc. This is with the full view, not the mobile version, as far as I know.

Is this issue just happening to me?

Should this information be relevant:

Browser: Chrome
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

Regarding attachment images, whatever happened to seeing them in full size automatically? As they are now, they are only thumbnails, which you have to click on to view in full size.

It's more logical
Tsunami Bomb - The Simple Truth
We could run away
Leave behind anything paper
Not knowing where we're going to stay
When there's no Mondays

You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
When I'm in your arms, I feel safe from harm and sorrow too
You're part of me, it's so easy to see the simple truth
But most of all, nothing couldn't be solved when I'm with you

I know that this topic has been adressed elsewhere, but I need to state my opinion on the current theme selection and layout

First and foremost; the themes are too bright. There is far too much pure white in the themes, and the severe lack of contrast makes posts and post divisions blur together in a very distracting and painful way.

I understand that a proper dark theme is in the works, but in the meantime could someone at the very least dim down the whites and darken the greys for the current themes?

I don't have a problem with the post layouts or other features in general though.

True, but wouldn't it be a little more convenient if the images were displayed right away instead of clicking on them to open a new tab/window just to see them in full size? It makes sense if the image is too large, but what about images that are small enough to not get scaled automatically?

thank you THANK YOU this THIS

Like, take a look at the reply box, or even the quick reply box. It's a nice, soft grey that makes the whole page not an eyesore.

If there was the alternating post_body colors that'd be even better; just the greys like in the old Apart themes would be infinitely better than what we've got now

It's more logical to scale down spritesheets so all the sprites look like sesame seeds

If it's a forum plugin, if it can work on a per-subforum basis that'd be neat but I don't think that's how those kind of things work :/

It's built into the software and large sheets will still be scaled down regardless, meaning you'd still need to click to view it at 1:1.

We're gonna change the colors, guys @____@
Dazz is out of town, Petie is...somewhere, and I'm currently swamped with school stuff but I'll get to it first chance I get

Don't worry, I know it's way too bright but it's not staying like that

I don't care if large sheet will be scaled down a bit. I just don't want every sheet to become tiny thumbnails. Besides, it wasn't like this before the big forum change.

Aren't thumbnails be more convenient for members with slower internet connections?
