Paper Mario animations
I got a new update ready for my Koopa. I was just going to do a few recolored parts, but I decided to make a few sketches for new parts, too.

By the way, if you look to the left of this image, I've been experimenting with the position of the arm. The one on the left is a rough example based on Neweegee's ideas, while the one on the right is the previous version of the arm, but it's shifted to the left a bit. I think the one on the right fits better with the Koopa's form, but what do you think?

I made some recolors for the back feet and sketched a few additional parts.

For the undershirt, would it make sense for me to move the arms slightly and/or make the neck longer?

Hey, guys, before I begin, let me remind you that the signup for the VG Resource Advent Calendar is still going on. You can find it right here.

And now to our irregularly scheduled update.

As it turns out, the neck is already quite long to begin with, so extending it for the undershirt wasn't a problem at all. Also, besides shading some side parts, I managed to make another version of the tongue that is more better suited to the Koopa's anatomy as opposed to the typical cartoony one you'll see below it. Your thoughts?

This took WAY LONGER than I was originally anticipating, but I finally managed to color the rest of that batch of inks. I would have been done much sooner, but I wanted to draw all the remaining parts sketches for my Koopa.

Even though the next logical corse of action is to ink all these suckers up, I actually want to take a break from the Koopa and work on inking (and possibly fully coloring) my Goomba next.

These koopas aren't very round. Their faces are kind of like rounded off cubes, and the placement of the light source is odd as well.

When you mentioned that the Koopas are not very round, you specifically mean the head facing the front and the back, right? Also, is the light source odd only for the front and back faces? If so, would shifting the central area of the highlight help?

While I'm waiting for Virt to answer my questions, I actually made a few additional sketches for my Goomba before I ink the new parts. To be specific, some head gear from the back angle and some alternate head angles.

The blockiness is especially evident in the front but it's still there in the side/3 quarters view
And the lighting is weird everywhere

Okay, Virt, I can change up the shape of the Koopa heads easily (from what I can see, it's the cheeks and the front beak that are the offenders here), but changing the shading for virtually every single part to what you have in mind is actually impossible by myself. With that said, I have an idea that could work.

This is how I picture the shading in my mind. For now on, I'll end up mapping my plan for the highlights and shading before I actually get to the shading part. That way, you guys can change it a little, so I wouldn't end up doing a lot of work only to end up having to do a lot of it over again some time later (which is something I was taking measures to avoid doing in the first place).

If that doesn't work, then I may as well go with my other plan, which is to do a sort of pre-rendered thing with Maya to handle the shading.

I cooked up another batch of Goomba inks. If there are any problems with them (such as how some parts look like rounded squares), I would appreciate you telling as soon as possible instead of waiting for the last minute to tell me these things. That way, I'll be at a good point to make adjustments instead of wasting time perfecting a part that just looks wrong to you guys.

In my opinion, these parts look great. The only exception is the side head, which somewhat has an odd shape. The only problems are that I'm not sure if it looks off to you guys and I don't know how it should look if it doesn't work.

These could have been done a bit sooner, but I was enjoying a playthrough of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Say what you will about it, but I think it's a solid, fun entry in the series that makes good use of the card system.

Hopefully, these look much better. Up next, I'm going to ink those Koopa sketches.

Dang… Has it been a month or so since this topic received a reply? I was hoping that there would be more discussion about this project, but besides some people still lurking in this topic, it felt like this topic went into neglect.

Luckily, I have just the thing to fix all that! I would have done it sooner, but there was the Secret Santa, my failed Advent Calendar project, and a family vacation I had to deal with.

Hopefully, none of these inked parts do not resemble rounded rectangles and/or otherwise look awkward.

I occasionally lurk around for progress...

If I really had anything to say, besides these are looking awesome/badass/sick/cool/amazing<insert adjective for impressive here> , I would say it.

Seeing as I don't really feel like critiquing these, nor do I have a problem with what you've shown thus far, I am remaining silent.

IDK about everyone else, tho

Keep up the awesome work!
And Happy New Year!

Well, I certainly appreciate that you like my progress on this project.

Anyway, to go through with a suggestion I made to Virt, I actually mapped all the areas I'll add shading and highlights to. I could have done it for the Koopas, but I want to take another break from them after spending a large amount of time on them.

Since a few parts are similar, such as the other mouth shapes and eyelids, I only mapped out one part of a set.  The other parts will have similar shading configurations. Are there any parts that need to be shifted a little?

As of the parts I have already shaded for the Goombas, the only one that I'm a little uneasy about is the underside of the brim for Goombario's hat. I feel like the highlight are should be shifted to the left a bit, but that's just me.

Also, I wasn't planning on posting this, but I made some recolored parts for the Koopa Troopas. I realize that the grooves of the Dry Bones shells are slightly off in placement, but I can't seem to make them look any better without them looking a bit weird for my tastes.

well, you...did stop posting. it's 2016 broski, 2015 was a pretty lousy year for everybody jsyk

I think the Resource is ready for some E-Man action once again, but that might be a discussion for another time. SweatdropContent
frankly, there might be a few reasons why you're getting a minimal amount of replies might be part of it but that's just me - try offering your input on others' work so they in turn might comfortably offer theirs in return . u_u

p.s. dont forget to post in the other subforums dang
