Paper Mario animations
I was afraid this might be an issue.
In that case, the first version might be your best bet, since it's clean/consistent

Yeah. What annoys me there is that I actually do consider the feedback. (aside from the down-reps, cuz tbh, those are pissing me off, or even depressing me)

It's hard to really compare the two greens since you only have that side by side for the sphere.
I guess it looks ok, but I just cannot tell.

I never really gave it much thought on the eyes. I think most games I've seen any kind of eyes blinking or making an expression do this from top and bottom thing, so I see so problem, i guess. Can I see what this is like with fully assembled eyes? Yor problem also might be not so much how your eyelids are closing, but whether or not they have even a subtle outline, themselves. (Where it makes sense, of course!)

Hey, man, nobody like down-reps and negative feedback. Even if you receive a few, at least try to hang in there. While it's natural to get stressed out and escalate situations at times like those, keeping your cool and learning from that ordeal is a feasible option. Even if it's not always guaranteed, at least it serves as good means for damage control and doesn't provide the same risks associated with lashing out.

Anyway, regarding the eyelids, I'll consider proving a sheet of all the eyelids over the Koopa's eyes if needed. That way, you'll be able to see them all to make a better opinion. If worse comes to worst, then I may as well daw another outline around the eyelids, much like i did with the Goomba's side eyelids.

As for the green, I think the jury is still out on that; however, Neweegee mentioned that it's not exactly worth it. Not only is the change not very noticeable to, but it's also a bit of a situation where I'm better off redrawing everything instead. Still, if there are people who want me to handle that change anyway, it wouldn't be the worst thing I'll have to deal with. It's just that there's a good chunk of file hopping and layer hunting involved with both the shading and outlines. Also, alining the new outlines and shading correctly takes a good amount of time on its own.


Now, with that all said, let's move onto today's update. It's about time that I finished a sheet after so long! Unless there's anything off about this creep, I'm ready to rearrage the parts and get him ready for submission! Smile

Well, unless I get anymore more reasonable suggestions, I'd say that the Big Lantern Ghost is done and dusted. Here is the final arrangement of the sheet.

Took my sweet time, but here's more progress! Honestly, I'd kill for another artist working on this project, so these blasted updates wouldn't take ages to do! It also doesn't help that my computer is acting up ever since yesterday afternoon.

Now then, you guys know about that new Paper Mario game, right? Ignoring the obvious complaints that I'm sure you guys heard multiple times already, my big concern is if I should change the graphical style of my project to match the footage. Obviously, I'm not going to use the choppy animation that has been a thing since Sticker Star and the shading is here to stay, but should I use the same level of realism the environments have in that game? Considering how I'm more of an animator than an expert at rendering, trying to achieve that same level of detail could be a bit of a problem (not to mention that it might take ages to render).

I hope you guys don't mind, but I'm putting progress on hold for the next few days or couple of weeks. Since my computer has an error and needs to be sent away in order to get fixed, I can't work on my original files.

Well, upgrading to El Capitan didn't exactly help with the problem, but the general reason I recently found out involves a faulty graphics card that MacBook Pros from late 2011 to early 2012 have.

I have a plan that will allow me to keep working on my Paper Mario progress with my MacBook away for repairs, but I'm not letting my hopes up.

Well, I guess I won't be out of commission after all! Even though my computer is still in the shop, I downloaded a trial version of Photoshop on an older computer to cover for this project. It's a bit slow and glitchy, but at least it doesn't crash.

Most of these are just part recolors, but I plan to finish all the Goomba parts during my time I'm away form my main computer.

Okay, ever since the 19th of this month, I got an e-mail that confirmed that my computer has returned from the repair shop. On the same day, I got another e-mail that let me know that my computer is ready to be picked up. Since then, I'm back using my old computer, which I can deeply appreciate because the temporary one was painfully laggy.

So, I be you're wondering why I didn't tell you guys this until more than a week later. Well, truthfully, I was going to tell you the moment I got the news. It's just that I think you guys probably wouldn't care about news like that (especially if I don't have any progress to showcase).

Look, I'm sorry for bringing this up, but it's just that I have been living with more anxieties than what I have in the past ever since last year or so. Due to those anxieties, I more or less became a recluse on this thread instead of actually socializing with the rest of the folks on the VG Resource. I honestly don't want to keep this up any longer and I'd like to have things return to what they once were. Unfortunately, I feel like something like that is not exactly possible anymore. It's hard for me to express my concerns anymore under the fear of either getting brushed off or otherwise punished. On top of that, even if I do return to the site regardless, just keeping these problems bottled up would probably break me (especially if I run into more problems during my time there).

To make matters worse, some of my anxieties relate to even hinting at my problems at all. Even when I don't go into the specifics of my problems and say so much as "I am feeling down," I always get that unpleasant feeling that one of you guys will give me a stern lecture that basically boils down to how that isn't exactly acceptable behavior and I should let it go. In fact, feelings of dread crosses every time I see you guys browsing my threads and replies because I feel like I said that one thing that'll land me in deep trouble. With that said, I'm taking a gigantic risk by even discussing this at all in this thread. It's just that I really can't keep going with posting pictures of my progress without hardly indication that the project is still on the right track, while I do my best to maintain a positive disposition and overall ignore the elephant in the room.


Speaking of posting progress, though, I have Kent C. Koopa's hands right here. I would have shown you guys this after I completed the entire set, but it was taking longer than I would have liked and I was feeling less inclined to continue shading for negative reasons.

So, even when I went through that bit of a rant right there, it didn't seem like you guys batted so much as an eyelid. I'm not entirely sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing considering how I was taking a bit of a risk there.

Anyway, as usual, I've got some new progress right here. By the looks of things, my Goombas are all ready for rigging. Still, if you guys have any suggestions to make for I convert them into sheets, I'm pretty much open to them.

So, I'm not sure if you guys have seen them yet, but I uploaded my Goomba sheets over on the VG Reosurce. I'm quite proud of the icon I gave one of them.

So, before I end this post off, I'm back to working on my Koopas again. Since I didn't get any additional word on the green shading (besides what Neweegee said to me before), I decided not to worry about the green anymore (at least until my first short is over). For now, here are the completed feet.

I know some of you guys think I'm not the type to be open to critiques, but I can assure that I at least consider them and try to work out a good way to apply them. Please give me some respectful feedback because it's frustrating that the only ones who adknowledge my work on this site anymore are my closest friends.

It's not that people aren't interested in your art, it's just hard to give any meaningful commentary until everything's assembled. You're also attempting simple characters in a simple style so there really isn't much room to make mistakes. Unsure

What you have here is pretty nice. The goomba has a lot of personality and the shoe shading looks OK.

Indeed, we need more assembled/completed examples to work with in order to really make any solid judgements of them.
