Trials of Mana / Seiken Densetsu 3 - Ripping all SNES Maps
#1
I just thought about what to rip next and I still have this tool called Map Jester for browsing through Trials of Mana (SNES).

Apparently, this tool exists since 2013 and delivers maps with excellent quality and since a lot of the maps on this site have cut off edges and screwed colour palettes due to emulation errors, I will re-rip everything.

Not sure if all of them are in the SNES version, but I'll see.

Okay, I was able to export every single map in the game and I can also view every single tileset with it.

A few rips from before I started SMW are already on the site, like Beiser (Exterior), Lowenburg (Exterior & Gate) and the two world maps.

Added Fiery Gorge.

Reference for assembling the single maps was the compilation on VGMaps:

It really throws me off when a game uses one map several times but edits them ingame with its tileset. I can't even use the ref on vgmaps since the mapper had the glorious idea to edit the maps into each other, which destroys the borders I need to reconstruct the map (Labyrinth of Ice).

Now I have to start the emulator, search save files, etc.

Nah, I do something else. Maybe some interior rooms?

Here is the WIP, btw:

Sheet is otherwise finished.

Also updated Fiery Gorge with the location of the Mana Goddess Statue (text only).

I'm actually trying to do the same, and I'm also using Mapjester but it's confusing me!

Do you have questions about it? Post them here and I try to answer them.

Btw, I'll probably get back to it and want to reserve the villages plus interiors, just in case.

Why thank you, Mr President!

So, I have Map Jester, but some tiles are of weird colours like bright green, and I don't think I see the animated tiles for water or fire. Please see screenshots here: https://www.vg-resource.com/thread-40042...#pid671060

Try to select a different palette. Either this, or the tileset has leftovers from another map, which means they're unused (which makes sense, one of these is a castle interior and the miscoloured tiles are from the jungle maps).

Thank you, could you please remind me how do i select a different palette? Is there I way I can determine how many palettes does a tileset have?

I'm pretty sure these tiles are just miscoloured by default and serve as padding.

They are on another set too (with a correct palette), so no worries.

So that's basically the rule, when I see these miscoloured tiles, the correct version is probably somewhere else?

What about animated tiles however, such as water, or decorative elements? I'm not sure I can see them in the tileset. Do you know where they are found?

Haven't seen them so far, maybe somewhere within Map Jester you can toggle frames like in Hyrule Magic (editor for Zelda 3), but I'm not sure.

Belated merry xmas!

I haven't seen it, I wonder if there's more documentation available. Have you found the function?

ok so, I've been tinkering with map jester and for the life of me I can't see where the animated tiles are triggered. Some tiles also appear to be missing - does the game just mirror them?

Anyone else interested? I'm at my wit's end sadly.
