Project Luna - A Sailor Moon Fan Game Project Thread

So I mentioned in my help request thread that I'm working on a Sailor Moon fangame using RPG Maker MZ.  I'm going to use this as my progress thread, in hopes that I can keep the momentum going with this project, and not succumb to ADHD. Because that never happens.  Rolleyes

First, some screen shots:
Opening screen; just about everything but the title and the background is animated in some way:
Some menu screens, experimenting with making the background of it pink, though I may need to make a different colored border for the system graphics:
I'm working on the walking sprites at the moment, using Usagi's civilian sprite as an experiment for what template style I wanted to use.  I put her together with some template parts from Game Character Hub, as well as some parts from an old sprite I made back in ye olden days.

Hoping to show off more as the game progresses.

I got a question for this fan game. Will it have dialogue based off the DiC dub or the Viz Media dub?

Probably not. I'm going off of headcanon for a good chunk of this, but also drawing a lot of inspiration from the manga/Crystal version.

Small update; I've finished the sprite for Queen Serenity, whom you'll play as in the beginning of the story.

As you can probably tell, there's a reason I did Usagi first; that hair style is going to get a lot of use, and blonde colors are easier to pick out when spriting.

I've also finished some music tracks.  For the opening splash, I have a music box version of the main theme, which I sequenced using sheet music from Ichigo's Sheet Music.  I also have the battle theme, which I made from the battle theme in the SNES Sailor Moon RPG.  The song really works for a battle theme, and it loops easily, so I figured why not use it here?

I'll show off more in future updates, like how for cutscenes I'm opting to style them like Phantasy Star IV's comic book-like cut-ins.  I feel that style will provide more character emotion than RPG Maker's built in emoji system.

I swear, I didn't forget about the forum thread, I've just been busy with all the changes I made as I worked through the story.  So you're going to see some new sprites using RPG Maker's standard sprite templates in the following screenshots.  It was the best way to go, as they matched with all the tilesets that I wanted to work with.

But anyway, enjoy some screenshots:

Yes, music will be from both the games, the 90s show, and Crystal. And yes; I'm not working on the battle system yet, but all the attacks will be there.

Awesome!! Also, will there be side quests and hidden weapons and gear people can find around areas? For example, if the moon starts with a heart rod, if I search around, will there be a moon rod upgrade that does additional bonus damage or just adds more power?

Weapons and the like are all tied into the battle system, so I haven't plotted that all out yet. I will say that items and such are similar to what was available in the SNES RPG, so there will be ultimate accessories and armor to collect that will benefit multiple stats at once.

No team attacks; I'm not getting in that deep with the battle system.

The screenshots from post #6 are not working anymore. Maybe use imgur for that:
https://imgur.com/
Once you register a free account with a throwaway email, your pics will hold out forever (or at least the time imgur stays functional).

And yes, you can immediately see that it's RPG Maker MZ. If possible, I would recommend to change icons, windows, bars & font since you can see that in every other MZ game, which kinda cheapens the look.

For the sprites:

Maybe experiment with the eye position a bit and consider a mouth. I edited the middle sprites from row 1+2 to show what I mean.
Row 1: each eye 1 pixel together and 1 pixel up
Row 2: eye two pixels to the left side and 1 pixel up

Note: These are rough edits / examples, therefore I didn't clean up where I cut out the eye(s) and I also didn't bother with them being over the hair.
