Mystie Makes Models

(Hooray for alliteratives!)

Anyway, here is where I will be posting my own custom-made models.

For my first attempt at modelling, I made Starlow from the Mario & Luigi games. The reason I chose Starlow to start off with is because she has extremely simple anatomy.

(Oh, and, an interesting little tidbit: I used the actual color palettes from Bowser's Inside Story on her body, feet, and star.)

well for starters, the eyes could be a bit smaller and thin. the star above her head can also be bigger as well. for a first time person modeling, this isnt half bad! Smile

The link has now been updated to an improved version, with a slightly bigger star and slightly smaller and thinner eyes. Tell me how it looks now.

Updated yet again, using lots of constructive criticism the folks in the IRC chat lended me.

Her feet are closer to Mario boot with soles and detail. You can probably borrow them from an existing model.

I think I may just flatten the bottoms of her feet just a tiny bit. Not make them half-circles like last time though.

Status update.

The next two models probably won't be coming until mid to late November. Due to my best friend coming back to visit on Sunday, a certain game coming out in two days, me and my friend going on vacation next week, and me having to get a lot of college assignments done ahead of time, I haven't had any time to work on modeling, and the only things I have gotten done are eye textures, and colors for various body parts.


But anyway, for those wondering who or what these two models are, here's a hint for one of them:

Wonder Pink is that character who you see above. I was going to begin making models of the Wonderful 101 characters, putting them in my artstyle rather than the game's, but I need to use the textures from the game itself as reference. So far, the only TW101 textures we can use are the ones included with the SSB4 trophies, but I need textures of the characters in their regular forms before I can begin, since I will be modelling their regular and superhero forms.

Anyway, I started on a model of Mabel from Gravity Falls today, and here's what I got so far:

Unfortunately, I can't get the pictures and the meshes properly aligned, and also, I am having problems trying to get the sweater to look right, and to turn the skirt mesh from a cube shape into a cylindrical shape.

You're definitely lacking vertical cuts as well: seen from the top your main shape probably looks like a diamond, since you got only four sides. Never used this program, but from what i kind see, you can probably use loop cut and slide to subdivide this part as well. To get a smooth shape, you need to have as many vertical lines as horizontal ones, so that your polygons look like squares instead of rectangles.

It's okay, I started to notice that anyway. I've been splicing the mesh more, both horizontally and vertically, to get her sweater to look right, but I still feel I'm not quite "there" yet.

On a positive note, however, I have made the eyes and legs, and I think they look pretty good. I'm even making the pupils be round-ish meshes, rather than a texture, because on the show, whenever a character is seen from a side angle, their pupil looks as if it's coming out of their eye, or resting on top of the eyeball. To emulate this, I chopped a cube into a round shape for the eyeball, chopped another cube into another round shape for the pupil, then placed the smaller shape in the middle of the larger shape.

I will post another picture when I make more progress.
