Ugh. Dark Matter's body shouldn't have shading. He's PURE DARKNESS for cripe's sake. Black. Black. Black.
But that's really the least of your problems. The line art is cruddy and he's barely even circular. And his eye is ... don't even get me started on it. I don't want to be mean, but that really looks like you're not even trying in the slightest. [EDIT] Okay that was in reference to your LAST attempt. I didn't post fast enough. @ville: I wasn't doubting that you had the color right. I just hadn't ever thought of it that way. It does look better now though. I don't have any complaints. @AgentLym: I don't like the cape, but I'm having trouble finding words to suggest how to fix it. Try getting rid of the dark grey lines in the folds.

A'ight! I got rid of the dark lines, and it does look much more like fabric! Thanks! I also made his "hair" darker and his dark body just plain black. (like you suggested! lol) It looks better that way. (at least, I think it is) ---EDIT--- And, I made his body more "ball"ish, like an orb of shadow kinda thing. (it was supposed to look like that earlier, but... it didn't look very round) ---EDIT2--- Ok... just a little update. Also, I wanted to see the two sprites next to eachother. I made the highlights on the blue less noticeable, and fixed the blue on the cape of the first edition, like the white one.
I edited the palettes of Dark Matter:
EDIT:I little update: The Arena Matter icons!

I don't think I have time, so UFO is free again.

And because it's sooo simple, these same spriters fail to turn out significant effort which reduces the quality of their work. Even if the style and sprites are simple, it doesn't matter if the spriters fail to grasp it. That said, being unable to understand this simple style and sprite these simple designs also says certain unfortunate things about the contributors of this project. Though, since you have the desire to come in the project and comment on the quality of the contributions, why not join the project yourself and show them all how it's done? I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing your work in this project. (01-27-2009, 01:02 PM)Drshnaps Wrote: Ugh. Dark Matter's body shouldn't have shading. He's PURE DARKNESS for cripe's sake. Black. Black. Ok, I had some extra time on my hands today (thanks, sleet!), so I came up with an animation for the cape! (Cape only! Not hair or shoulder pads yet! )
<-Moving So... yeah, I wanna know what you guys think! It took me while, but I thought it turned out good! And remember, I AM going to animate the hair and shoulder pads! Just probably tomorrow... Too tired to work anymore. ---EDIT--- And I thought maybe you guys would want to see my actual sprites: There's two sets of complete ones: 1) Moving - for when Sword Matter actually moves 2) Windy - for when SM is halted, but a wind blows his cape ...Yeah, four frames each, but, that's all you need! Barnacles!! I still need to animate the yellow/red bars of fabric on the 'Windy' variant.
That's looking pretty dang good!
I just think that everything is a bit too shiny. The animation, though, is really great! EDIT: BTW, as much as I love that animation, I think Sword Matter could actually stand to be a bit bigger. More than likely, he was that size in the original due to GameBoy limitations... But that's up to you.

Hey. I tried doing Needleous from KNID
This is my first try at the style. Is it in style or did I mess something up? Also, I like the Sword Matter a lot. I also like the Blooper. The Dark Matter needs work though, it's not in style.

@GFK: From what I can tell without zooming in on it, it looks pretty good. He's pretty cute.
@Sploder: Technically his Sword Matter is already bigger than the original proportions; the original was only two times Kirby's height and his version is two and a half. I do think the "quills" on top of his head could stand to be a bit longer though. @AgentLym: The animation looks good, but there's still something about the overall look of the cape that bugs me; I can't seem to put my finger on it though, someone else want to make a suggestion for once? Anyways, other than that, I think his shoulder pads could stand to be a bit bigger, and his quills a tad longer and "sharper". Also don't forget to make his quills bend in the wind as well; even the original 8-bit sprite did that.

That's a pity. That UFO was looking really nice.

This has to be the quickest I've ever finished a sprite sheet. Any comments? KillerAslox: Too bad, that was turning out to be a really good UFO Kirby.

@GFK: This Sprite looks like he belongs into the game. Great work Green Fire Kirby!
Here is something I´m currently working on : it´s Sweet Stuff from KDL2 and KDL3. Any comments?

I started Two Face:
I used the same kind of shading that Kabu has, I'm not sure if it works, what do you think? I also cant decide on which shape to use, the original sprite and artwork doesn't make it very clear how he looks... Artwork: |
